DT Primer
Learning Studio . Design Thinking Intro . Session 1
Today, we kick off our introduction to design thinking and debunk a myth of where innovation comes from, provide a working definition for design thinking, offer a glimpse at the “design process”, and connect the dots to the business value of design.
And, of course, we run an activity to warm up our creative muscles. So, grab a piece of paper and a sharpie, get your headphones, and let’s jump in.
Session Notes:
When debriefing the warm-up activity, I reference David Kelley’s book (written with his brother Tom) on Creative Confidence.
To learn more about the business value of design, check out the Design Management Institute’s work on the “Design Value Index” (DVI) (tracking the business performance of “design-centric” organizations).
Also worth a look (inspired by DMI’s DVI), is the “McKinsey Design Index”. This is the most rigorous study connecting the dots between design and business value that I’m aware of.
